The Issue

Save Citywood Services!! Regeneration does not have to come at a cost to the community.

If Citywood Services closes because Tower Hamlets Council sells the yard to private developers without providing suitable relocation, then central London's last tree farmer will be lost.

Danny Sullivan and Suraiya Tuku will be forced to close Citywood Services after 25 years of dedication to the cause of upcycling felled trees and CND waste from landfill. Their passion has always been to set an example from London to the rest of the UK AND THE WORLD what can be repurposed from the mindless disposal and mismanagement of a valuable commodity.

Over the past years Citywood Services has provided support to Mencap, art students, architects, people with special needs with learning difficulties, senior citizens, women with underlying health conditions, foster children, Fordhall Farm, Bromley by Bow Center, Cody Docks, Olympic stadium view tube, Mudshoot Farm, Abbey Garden, Great Ormond St Hospital, Royal London Hospital, Stanton Guild House, The Apps Estate, Storik, Paara, and many many more.

Citywood Services in Tower Hamlets is a wonderful place; it is a community inspired project run by two passionate individuals who care deeply about people and the natural environment. The project was set up in 2008 to transform and enliven a forgotten place, a disused car park which had fallen to illegal fly tipping and dumping ground, right in the heart of a vibrant and multi cultural residential community.

With zero help from the local authorities, Suraiya and Danny invested their time, money and resources to create a safe environment for children to grow up in and connect back to nature and the outdoors, and to create a better quality of life for the local community which deserved better than the neglected wasteland and lack of amenity space. The vision was to clean up the neglected and forgotten space and create a safe and creative environment for the local community to benefit from.

Over the years the project developed to provide an organic community allotment and art workshops through the creative reuse of recycled timber in the yard. Citywood Services have created a gem of a place in a busy and urban area of London. If suitable arrangement is not made for the relocation of Citywood Services, they will be forced to close forever and a genuine community led project will be destroyed after 25 years of supporting a local community.
