Pride Frisco Recommends City of Frisco to Establish an Official Inclusion Committee
The Issue
Here's the deal:
- In 2019, the Frisco Mayor and City Council told everyone, including FIFA, they created an INCLUSION committee. The problem? THEY DIDN'T.
- Now that we called them out on it, they want to create a CULTURE committee and tell you it's the same thing. The problem? IT ISN'T.
- INCLUSION = the act or practice of including and accommodating people who have been historically excluded
- CULTURE = the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group
- INCLUSION ≠ CULTURE
As presented in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Candidate Host City, DALLAS HUMAN RIGHTS PLAN (page 65):
- "The City of Frisco has programs in place to protect the RIGHTS and FREEDOMS of our CITIZENS and VISITORS
- In 2019, the Mayor created the FRISCO INCLUSION COMMITTEE (FIC)
- The FIC works closely with city staff, including our police department, to UNDERSTAND, RESPECT, and PROVIDE SERVICE to our DIVERSE POPULATION
- The [FIC] is a NON-POLITICAL, MAYORAL AD-HOC COMMITTEE, which exists to provide creative ideas and feedback to PROACTIVELY ENGAGE Frisco's DIVERSE POPULATION through the following priorities:
- Partnering with city leaders to establish EQUITY through deliberate COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS
- Enhancing the community by celebrating and fostering MUTUAL RESPECT, INTEGRITY, and FAIRNESS
- Building bridges to promote a CULTURE OF INCLUSION"
In alignment with this public commitment to FIFA World Cup and in response to the City of Frisco Mayoral Proclamation to establish the FRISCO MULTICULTURAL COMMITTEE "for the promotion of CULTURAL AWARENESS, EVENTS, and CELEBRATIONS in Frisco" at the City Councial meeting on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, PRIDE FRISCO recommends:
- The Frisco City Council establish an OFFICIAL COMMITTEE whose primary function is to ensure EQUAL ACCESS to OPPORTUNITIES for EVERYONE in FRISCO, TEXAS
- The committee's MEMBERSHIP should be BALANCED, which includes diversity of ETHNICITY, NATIONAL ORIGIN, RACE, DISABILITY, RELIGION, GENDER IDENTITY, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, AGE, SOCIALECONOMIC LEVEL, and VETERAN STATUS
- MEETINGS should be on a REGULAR BASIS and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
- RECORDS and MEETING MINUTES should be DOCUMENTED, ARCHIVED, and made AVAILABLE for PUBLIC REVIEW
- Within SIX (6) MONTHS, the committee should gather COMMUNITY INPUT, report their findings, and provide recommendations to the City Council of measures designed to enhance the HEALTH, SAFETY, ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY, CULTURAL and LEARNING OPPORUNITIES, and GOVERNMENT ACCESS and ACCOUNTABILITY for ALL FRISCO RESIDENTS and VISITORS
We encourage all Frisco RESIDENTS AND VISITORS to support these recommendations to the Frisco City Council by signing this petition and sharing it widely.
Also, here's a convenient way organized by Equality Texas to Email the Frisco City Council your thoughts on the matter.
