Prevent Water Restrictions and Protect your Property Rights

Prevent Water Restrictions and Protect your Property Rights
The Issue
Every family in Montgomery County has already experienced, or will soon experience, water restrictions. This issue directly impacts your daily life and property rights. Overpumping by Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District (LSGCD) has caused lasting damage. Sign this petition now to take action and protect your family's water future.
-------------------------
Unchecked groundwater overpumping by LSGCD of the Chicot, Evangeline, and Jasper Aquifers threatens your water supplies, property rights, and the future of your communities. Access to reliable water is vital to your livelihood.
Yet LSGCD's inaction has already impacted many families, leading to water restrictions and damaging property rights across our communities and businesses. Your voice can help change this!
For years, LSGCD has identified the deeper, untapped Catahoula Aquifer as a long-term solution; it's time LSGCD acts on this opportunity to serve new communities with water from the Catahoula.
Your involvement is crucial to safeguarding your water supply. Supporting this petition demonstrates you want a sustainable water future for your community and future generations.
Sign this petition now to prevent water restrictions and protect your property rights by demanding the use of the Catahoula Aquifer to secure water for you and your family.
Additional Information:
- The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District 2025 Management Plan demonstrates that the upper aquifers are being overused, exceeding their recovery capacity. The 2026 County permitted groundwater pumpage is authorized at about 150,000 acre-feet, with the ability to recharge from precipitation at about 55,695 acre-feet per year.
- The most recent USGS Scientific Study on the Status of Water-Level Altitudes and Long-Term and Short-Term Water-Level Changes in the Chicot, Evangeline (Undifferentiated), and Jasper Aquifers, Greater Houston Area, Texas, 2023, demonstrates remarkable water-level declines in Montgomery County.
- The City of Conroe's 1-year construction moratorium ended in late 2025, when it obtained an additional 3 million gallons a day of surface water from the San Jacinto River Authority to resolve its water crisis.
- Many Private and Public Water Utilities across the County have triggered Drought Contingency Plans restricting water usage.
- The City of Montgomery has had multiple issues over the years that have restricted water usage.
- LSGCD must require new Large-Volume Water Users to tap the Catahoula Aquifer to prevent water restrictions and protect property rights.
