The Issue

My name is Brandon W, and I am a resident of the Timberbrook apartments at the University of Texas at Arlington. Alongside many fellow students, I face the prospect of being forced to vacate our homes in Timberbrook for more expensive units in Arbor Oaks, solely to raise the rental prices at Timberbrook for incoming transfer students (allegedly). This decision is not only financially burdensome but also disruptive to our academic lives and wellbeing.

Timberbrook apartments have served as affordable housing for students like me, who are striving to balance education costs with living expenses. The proposed relocation to Arbor Oaks means a significant hike in rent. For many of us, this increase is unsustainable and may force us to consider withdrawing from coursework or searching for part-time jobs, thereby affecting our academic performance. The relocation not only imposes financial strains but also extends the daily commute, which could negatively impact our time management and overall student experience.

We ask the University of Texas at Arlington administration to reconsider their plan and halt the forced relocation of Timberbrook residents. Instead, we propose exploring alternative solutions such as gradually phasing in new residents without displacing the current ones. We also suggest engaging in an open dialogue with residents to understand our concerns and seek mutually beneficial outcomes.

Please help us preserve affordable student housing and maintain the diversity and inclusivity of our campus community by signing this petition. Together, we can urge UT Arlington to put students' needs first before financial gains. Your signature can make a meaningful difference for students like me, who simply want to continue their education without unnecessary hardships.
