Prevent the transfer of Green Level HS enrollment areas
The Issue
Due to the opening of Morrisville High School in 2027, WCPSS has decided to propose changing the base enrollment areas of areas of Green Level High School to Panther Creek High School. This change threatens Greystone and all neighborhoods above Morrisville Parkway and Green Hope School Road. These transfers cause violations of Board Policy 4150 for the following reasons:
- Disruption of academic pathways. These transfers will threaten transferred students' academic continuity through disruption of multi-year AP, CTE, and specialized arts sequences.
- Capacity & Housing Growth
WCPSS models fail to account for recent Town of Cary approvals of 650+ new housing units and active multi-family construction near Panther Creek. Reassigning established subdivisions now guarantees severe overcrowding and double-reassignment as new apartments lease up. If that doesn't fill enough space, they can also incorporate the enrollment area of Green Hope north of Morrisville Pkwy and west of Davis Drive, which would also unite Alston Ridge feeders and lessen burden on the 1000-student overburdened Green Hope HS. - Transit & Safety Issues
These transfers would route additional bus traffic through congested roads like NC-55 and McCrimmon Parkway, increasing transit time and district travel extensions, as well as the fact that many neighborhoods being transferred to Panther Creek are closer to Green Level. - Feeder & Community Splitting
These transfers split established middle school graduating cohorts and
fragments neighborhood lines, violating district proximity
and community cohesion standards.
Some other reasons to sign against this change are the worse academic scores in Panther Creek as found in this article, showing lower proficiency in reading and math.
So what is our demand?
Our demand is to prevent the transfer of base enrollment areas altogether - this will prevent any unfortunate effects of transferring students from Green Level to Panther Creek.
How does signing the petition help?
Community pressure will help get WCPSS to change their stance on reassignment of base enrollment areas by showing popular disapproval. Our goal is 500 signatures and extended goal of 1000.
Other things you can do:
