Prevent the TikTok ban

The TikTok Ban: A Countdown to April 5, 2025

In early 2024, Congress passed a bill declaring that TikTok would be banned for all U.S. users starting January 19, 2025. Despite numerous bidders, TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, refused to sell the app. As a result, TikTok was set to go dark on January 19. However, after just 12 hours offline, President Trump extended the deadline by 75 days, giving ByteDance until April 5, 2025, to sell TikTok. With that deadline now just two days away, urgent action is needed.

What does the ban mean?

The ban targets all apps owned by ByteDance, including TikTok and CapCut. The U.S. government claims these apps, owned by a Chinese company, pose a risk to national security by allegedly stealing user data.

What led to the 2024 bill?

Before the bill passed, individual states voted on whether TikTok should be banned. In states that supported the ban, TikTok was restricted on public Wi-Fi networks.

Why is this unconstitutional?

TikTok serves as a platform for free speech, protected under the First Amendment. With over 170 million users in the U.S., the government’s decision to ban the app disregards the voices of the people.
