Prevent the State DOT from Encroaching on National Historic Land

Prevent the State DOT from Encroaching on National Historic Land
The Issue
As a resident of Denver, NC, and a steward of our local history, I find myself intertwined in a struggle that threatens to disrupt a monumental piece of our shared heritage. In 1828, the Rock Springs Campmeeting moved to its current location and except for two occasions, the cherished annual Campmeeting has been steadfastly held, continually adding to our rich cultural chronicle. However, our local history now faces an imminent threat. The State Department of Transportation (DOT) is aiming to infrave upon the land that we, the people of Denver, hold so dear, a land recognized as a National Historic Site.
Could you fathom a world where we disregard sites of historical significance for temporary gains? A historical setting, where hundreds of years of community gathering is overshadowed by the roar of advancing traffic. Renowned for its cultural importance, this site serves as a living testament to our shared past, a past that has directly shaped the community we are today. In fact, published reports indicate that historic sites contribute to environmental preservation, education, and even local economies (National Trust for Historic Preservation).
Let's stand together against the State DOT's proposed acquisition. By signing this petition, you're not only preserving a designated National Historic Site - you're also a piece of Denver's legacy, protecting our environment and the enrichment of future generations.
