On March 15, 2019, during the Christchurch shootings, New Zealand experienced first-hand the devastating impact that military style semi-automatics (MSSA) and assault rifles can have on a peaceful society. In light of this tragic event, it is crucial that we prevent any law change in New Zealand that would allow these dangerous weapons back into our society.

The aftermath of the Christchurch shootings led to a nationwide ban on MSSAs and assault rifles. This was a significant step towards ensuring public safety. 

However, recent discussions suggest potential changes to these laws which could see these deadly weapons reintroduced. These weapons are highly durable and no individual can guarantee what will happen to it over its decades of functionability. Any weapon that touches New Zealand soil could enter the blackmarket and criminal hands. We cannot let this happen. The safety of our communities should always be paramount over individual interests.
