The Issue

I was five years old and my sister was seven when our mother was stalked, beat ,and shot in the head brutally taken by a man who showed no regard for her life. Her untimely death was not just a tragic accident, it was a senseless act of violence driven by a reckless disregard for the sanctity of human life. The pain that follows me every day is immeasurable, and the void that my mother's absence leaves in our family is one that will never be filled.

Recently, I learned that someone is attempting to initiate a petition to free the very person responsible for my mother's death. This development has left me anxious and distressed, realizing that there could be a scenario in which my mother's killer is granted freedom, a freedom that he so cruelly denied to her.

This is not just a personal battle; it's a community's struggle to ensure that justice is upheld and that the memory of those who have suffered due to senseless acts of violence is honored. According to FBI statistics, homicides in the U.S. contribute significantly to annual violence, with many families shattered as ours has been. By releasing individuals who have been lawfully sentenced for such heinous crimes, we risk perpetuating a cycle of violence and undermining the legal system's integrity.

Our legal framework is designed to protect citizens and to serve justice. It is crucial that we respect the verdicts given by the judicial system unless clear evidence suggests a miscarriage of justice, which is not the case here. Releasing individuals early on unjust grounds can lead to a lack of deterrent for future crimes and can embolden others to engage in similar reprehensible actions, believing they too might avoid the consequences of their actions.

I urge you all to stand with me, not only in remembrance of my mother, but in firm opposition to the release of those who have proven to be dangers to society. Our community must send a clear message that the lives of innocent victims matter, and that we will not stand for wrongful leniency in our justice system.

Please sign this petition to prevent the release of my mother's killer, ensuring that justice is served and that our safety and moral integrity are preserved.
