Prevent the Release of False Documentary on Chris Brown by Investigation Discovery

The Issue

As a woman and a long-time fan of Chris Brown, I am writing to express my deep concern over the upcoming documentary Chris Brown: A History of Violence, scheduled to air on October 27, 2024. This documentary seems to unfairly target both Chris's difficult upbringing and his character, while introducing a so-called “new accuser” of sexual violence against him. However, this individual, [Redacted], is not new, nor are accusations credible. [Redacted] previously accused Chris of rape in 2020, but claims were thoroughly discredited following an investigation of text messages and voicemails, leading to legal team’s withdrawal from the case.

The documentary also revisits an incident from Chris's teenage years—an event for which he has repeatedly expressed regret and apologized to the victim. However, the project appears to omit critical context, including the fact that Chris himself was a victim of abuse during this relationship as well. By excluding such details, the documentary creates an incomplete and misleading narrative.

Chris, like anyone, is not without fault. He has made mistakes, but those incidents occurred nearly two decades ago, and he has since faced the legal and public consequences. This petition is not an attempt to excuse those past actions but rather an appeal for truth, justice, and fairness.

It is troubling that ID is moving forward with a documentary that appears biased and defamatory, especially when it relies on discredited accusations. As consumers of media, we deserve content that is factual, balanced, and free of sensationalism. Therefore, we urge ID to suspend the release of this documentary until all facts are fully verified and the portrayal of events is based on truth rather than conjecture.

Furthermore, this project risks perpetuating harmful stereotypes, particularly against successful Black men, while distracting from real issues that warrant attention. Many high-profile white men with documented histories of violence against women have been allowed to evade public scrutiny, and it is troubling that this disproportionate focus on Chris Brown seems to sidestep broader accountability in such cases.

We fully support the fight against domestic and sexual violence and stand with survivors. However, airing a documentary based on false accusations undermines the very real struggles of true victims and dilutes the importance of their voices. Misleading narratives such as this one create a harmful precedent, where the seriousness of these crimes is diminished, and real victims are left to suffer further.

For these reasons, we call upon Investigation Discovery to halt the production and release of this documentary. This is a matter of truth and fairness, not only for Chris Brown but for all those affected by violence and false accusations. By signing this petition, we stand against misinformation and for the protection of integrity in media. Let us ensure that justice is based on verified facts, not on falsehoods, and that we preserve the dignity of both the accused and the genuine victims.
