This land, adorned with majestic Live Oaks, is not just another parcel waiting to be consumed for infrastructure development. It's a symbol of our shared history, a reflection of our commitment to our environment, and a repository of irreplaceable memories. Over 400 individuals contributed over $2 million to ensure this iconic plot remained untouched. A promise was made - a promise now threatened with the proposed construction of a roundabout.
My family's roots are intertwined in those Oaks and in that dirt. It's where my lifelong friendships were forged. The birthplace of my love for horses. It's where my mother began riding, worked, and finally owned her first horse. It's where my sister and I excitedly contributed our time, adding to its rich narrative. This little Stable on the corner was our refuge: a place of camaraderie, peace, and solace.
Now, it's about more than a personal story. It's about a collective legacy that resonates with every person who ever set foot in this place of old-world charm and warm community vibes. The proposed construction is not only a violation of trust but also a shocking disregard for the significance of this land.
It is crucial to preserve the legacy. We need to uphold the commitments made to the hundreds of donors who generously contributed to protecting this invaluable piece of our shared history. Please support the Land Trust to fulfill its promise to preserve this land in the face of dismissive politicians and government officials who so casually want to take private property, erase St. Simons history, and destroy everything that makes our island unique and beautiful!
"From the age of seven, this corner was my life - my fun, my solace, my camaraderie, my attention to role models, my sense of responsibility and of values and morals honoring our highest selves. I could go on indefinitely . The lessons I learned are priceless. I grew up on this corner. I’m the woman I am today because of this corner." - Claire Cofer
"My whole childhood involved Sea Island Stables and the people that I met, we were a family. We were all brought together by the love of horses and the Long family that encouraged us and loved us as if we were their own. I lost my sister, Te' in 2016 and I see her in every memory that I have of the Stables and she went on to do great things in the horse world because of what she learned and loved at that Stables. We had the best childhood and I feel so humbled and blessed that I was part of such a beautiful place, even my mom spent her childhood there, it was an amazing, magical place. That property that is home to all of the horse spirits, and other beautiful animal souls, that still roam this sacred place deserves to be left as it is. It isn't just land, it was our home where everyone was welcomed and given a chance to experience the beauty of horses and family." - Maela Townsend
"I grew up at Sea Island Stables, from 1959 till they torn it down, over 40 years if my life. The lessons I learned there have made me a better and well rounded person. The memories, friendships, and love I received from the Long family in the 40 years are so many that they can't be written here. It all comes flooding back everytime I drive by the Stable Corner. It is the only piece of land on Frederica Road, or infact the whole island, that shows what a unique and beautiful island this use to look like. Atleast least right now, when sitting at the red light you can look over and take a big deep breath and see NATURE at it's most finest." - Linda Rhodes
