Prevent the Destruction of Our Neighborhood Trees
The Issue
Our Gates neighborhoods are a vibrant, beautiful place thanks to the towering trees that line our streets. These trees are more than just plants — they are vital parts of our ecosystem, providing shade, reducing noise, shielding us from strong winds, and enhancing the aesthetic quality of our community. However, all of this is at risk as our local water company plans to replace the water supply lines by cutting down these invaluable trees.
The proposal from the water company suggests removing these majestic trees to facilitate the replacement process, but we believe this approach would devastate the character and charm of our neighborhoods. The presence of these trees boosts our property values significantly, and their loss would detrimentally impact our quality of life, transforming our neighborhoods into barren landscapes. Remember Roving Road last September '25, to see an example of this already in progress.
Interestingly, the water company has already identified an alternative approach, which is to install the new water lines into the street instead of cutting down our trees. This method allows for essential infrastructure upgrades without destroying the green canopies that our community holds dear.
It's crucial that the water company opts for the street installation alternative. It not only preserves the natural beauty and ecological benefits our trees provide but also respects the heritage of our community. Moreover, moving the installation to the street may reduce costs, as it will avoid not only the trees, but also all of the driveways and landscaping, etc. at the curb. Consider the costs associated with increased stormwater management, energy use for cooling homes in the absence of tree shade, and reductions in property values.
Let's come together to protect the trees that form the backbone of our community's environment. We urge all residents and concerned individuals to sign this petition, advocating for the street installation. In doing so, we send a clear message to the water company that our trees are non-negotiable assets deserving of preservation.
Please support our cause by signing this petition and help us preserve the beauty and value of our neighborhood for future generations.
