Prevent the Demolition of the William Penn Statue in Welcome Park

Prevent the Demolition of the William Penn Statue in Welcome Park
The Issue
As a Congressional Candidate for the 4th District of Pennsylvania, I am moved to action by the impending threat to our historical monument - The William Penn Statue by the Biden Administration. Biden Administration set to remove William Penn Statue This statue is not just a piece of art; it represents our founder, William Penn, and serves as a constant reminder of our state's rich history.
William Penn founded Pennsylvania with an aim to create a haven for religious freedom and peace. His principles have shaped our state's identity and continue to influence us today. It is disheartening that such an important symbol of our heritage is at risk of being erased.
According to the National Register of Historic Places, Welcome Park itself was dedicated in 1982 as part of Philadelphia’s tricentennial celebration (source: National Register Information System). The park and its centerpiece - the statue - have been integral parts of community life ever since.
Tearing down this statue would be akin to erasing part of our identity. It would be an act against preserving American history and culture. We must remember that understanding history helps us shape a better future.
I urge you all, fellow residents who value our shared heritage, let us unite against this proposed demolition. Let's stand together for preservation over erasure; let's stand up for what makes Pennsylvania unique. Please sign this petition urging local authorities not only to halt plans for demolition but also ensure proper maintenance for the William Penn Statue in Welcome Park.
