Moreover, research from the National Academy of Sciences reveals that at least 4.1% of defendants sentenced to death in the US are innocent (National Academy of Sciences, 2014), thus emphasizing the importance of utmost caution when assigning such irreversible sentences. Let's strive to consider alternatives - such as life imprisonment - that respect the sanctity of life while ensuring justice is served.
