Prevent the Closure of Whistle Stop Dog Park in Byron Center

The Issue

As members of the Byron Center community and regular users of the Whistle Stop Dog Park, we find the recent decision to close the park both unnecessary and undemocratic. Whistle Stop Dog Park is a beloved recreational space where our pets run around and enjoy the fresh air every weekend. It is a securely enclosed area, and its use by pets doesn't disturb anyone at any time of the day or night.

The decision to shut down this park, which has been a constant part of our community for years, seems to have been made based on the complaints of just two individuals. It raises the question: should such a public asset be closed because of the dislikes of a minority? A wise policy would be to consider the majority's preferences and entail a community vote before making such decisions, rather than leaving it to the discretion of a handful of people or the township alone.

By shutting down Whistle Stop Dog Park, not only is the township disregarding the democratic process, but it's also depriving our pets of a cherished and harmless play area which contributes significantly to their physical and mental health.

Let us elevate our voices and demand our rights as community members to keep our park open. We urge the Byron Township to reconsider this decision and instead let the community vote on whether the park should remain. Sign this petition to keep Whistle Stop Dog Park available for our beloved pets.
