Prevent the Closure of Treowen School

Prevent the Closure of Treowen School
The Issue
I am a resident of Newtown, Powys, UK, and the impending closure of Treowen School deeply concerns me. This school is not just an educational institution; it is a significant part of our community in Treowen. It's where our children learn and grow, where friendships are formed, and where community values are instilled.
The proposed closure threatens to disrupt this harmony. Our children will have to adjust to new environments which could potentially affect their academic performance and social development. Moreover, it would mean longer travel times for many students who currently walk to school.
According to data from the Department for Education (DfE), changing schools can have a negative impact on children's academic progress (DfE 2014). We cannot let this happen to our kids.
We understand that budget cuts may necessitate difficult decisions. However, we believe that closing schools should be the last resort after all other cost-saving measures have been explored.
We urge local authorities in Newtown, Powys to reconsider this decision and explore alternative solutions that won't compromise our children's education or disrupt our close-knit community life in Treowen.
Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving local education facilities like Treowen School for future generations.
