Prevent the Closure of the Laugharne Surgery

The Issue

As the Community Council of Laugharne, we have witnessed firsthand the suffering of our local and neighbouring communities due to reduced services from the Laugharne surgery. The situation is dire and will only worsen if the surgery closes entirely. Our communities have relied heavily on this facility for its healthcare needs prior to Covid and have waited patiently as we hoped a full service would resume after the pandemic.

The Laugharne ward, with its population of around 2,703 people (according to the electoral division profile, Carmarthenshire County Council 2021), is not just a number. It's a community where everyone knows each other and cares for one another. The closure of our surgery would mean that many residents would have to travel considerable distances to receive basic healthcare services.

The NHS has always been committed to providing accessible healthcare for all UK citizens regardless of their location (NHS Constitution). Closing down our local surgery contradicts this commitment and leaves us without crucial health services.

We urge you not only as residents but as individuals who care about the well-being of every member in our community, let's stand together against this closure. We need your support now more than ever before - sign this petition today and help us save Laugharne Surgery and protect primary health care in the township and neighbouring communities by ensuring we have provision of GP services.
