As a deeply concerned community in Yonkers, NY, we are raising our voices to save our beloved St. Mary's Church from closure. This church is more than just a building; it is a symbol of our faith and unity, an integral part of our community and history. It holds countless memories for families and future generations who have celebrated life events within its sacred walls.

St. Mary's Church has served as a beacon of hope for many years. Its possible closure threatens not only our spiritual lives but also the rich cultural heritage that it represents.

We call upon all members of the community and leaders who represent us to stand with us in this crucial time! We need your support to keep St. Mary's doors open for worship, fellowship, and service to others.

��Update from Townhall on 1/17/24 ��

1. Decree has not been signed to close church as of yet per the archdiocese’ representative. 
2. The church must come up with a plan to raise the money for the repairs. 
3. Members of the community shared their sentiments and how we can come together to help the church. 
4. We will wait for the cardinal/representatives of the cardinal to get back to us.
5. In the first meeting with the parish council, the representatives had said that the closure had already been decided and effective July 1st, 2024 and that the merge with St. Peter’s church was also effective as of July 1st, 2024. And now they have changed their message and said closure is still not decided. 
6. The Parishioners and the community requested to work together to fix the problems and keep the church open and running. Also, experienced parishioners who are engineers and architects gave their opinion and wish to inspect and work on the reparations. 

��Notas de la reunion que se tuvo el 1/17/24�� 

1. La representante del cardinal nos avisó que todavía no se ha firmado el decreto para cerrar la iglesia.  
2. La iglesia debe formular un plan para recaudar los fondos para cubrir las reparaciones.
3. Miembros de la comunidad se unieron para expresar sus sentimientos y como nos podemos unir para ayudar a la iglesia. 
4. Ahora tendremos que esperar que nos avise el cardinal o su representante que procede.
5. En la primera reunión con el consejo parochial habían dicho que estaba confirmado el cierre de nuestra iglesia y que tomará efecto el 1 de Julio del 2024 y que como plan de reubicación se combinará con St. Peter’s/St. Dennis efectivo el 1 de Julio del 2024. Ahora su mensaje a cambiado y nos dicen que el cierre de la iglesia todavía no se ha decidido.
6. Los feligreses y la comunidad pudrieron trabajar juntos para arreglar los problemas para seguir teniendo la iglesia abierta. En la junta también hubo feligreses con experiencia de ingeniería y arquitectura que nos dieron su opinión y mencionaron que les gustaría inspector y ayudar con los reparos de la iglesia.

�Notes from the meeting on Jan. 10th �

In the meeting with the Church committee and the representatives from the archdiocese of NY: 
  
1. The representatives informed the church committee of Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s decision. They announced that he was closing the church and the effective date would be July 1st, 2024. They also informed the committee that there would be a merger with St. Peter’s/St. Dennis in order to provide a relocation for its parishioners. 
2. The reasons they mentioned were the following: 1) that the church did not pass inspection and it had multiple superficial damages. 2) the cost estimated for repair was a total of 10 million dollars for repairs and that they don’t count with the money to be able to help repair the church. This was announced in July 2023, year in which the church celebrated 175 years. 
3. On Dec. 9th, 2023, we celebrated 175th anniversary of the church and Cardinal Timothy Dolan celebrated a mass at the church. 
4. Additionally, the archdiocese installed scaffolds around the church with a cost of $3,000 a month from July 2023. The cost of the scaffolds is covered by the parishioners from the church and generous contributions. 

�Notas de reunión del 10 de Enero: �

En la junta entre el consejo parroquial de la iglesia Santa Maria y los representantes de la arquidiócesis  de Nueva York el pasado miercoles 10 de Enero del 2024

- Los representantes informaron a el consejo parroquial la decición tomada por el cardenal Timothy Dolan

Que el cierre de la iglesia era un hecho y tendria effecto el primero de julio del 2024

- También indicaron que la parroquia de santa maria seria conbinada con la parroquia de san pedro / st Dennis como plan de reubicación para los feligreses 

- Los motivos que dieron para considerar el cierre es que segun ellos este año fueron las siguientes: 1) la parroquia no paso inspección de la estructura con multiples daños superficiales (daños que segun ellos son muy graves) 2) según sus estimados costaría 10 millones de Dollares en reparaciones, dinero que segun ellos no tienen para reparar la iglesia. Esto fue anunciado en Julio del 2023 año en que la parroquia celebra 175 años. 

-El 9 de Diciembre con motivo de la celebración de aniversario, el cardenal timothy dolan celebro una misa en la iglesia!
- Adicionalmente la arquidiocesis instaló andamio alrededor de la iglesia  a un costo de 3 mil dollares por mes desde el mes de Julio del 2023 y el costo es cubierto por el dinero de los feligreses de la iglesia y sus generosas contribuciones!
