As a dedicated viewer, I am deeply concerned about the cancellation of 'The Drum' on ABC. This programme is not just another show for me; it is a platform that offers honest and varied opinions from experts and commentators across diverse fields. It stands out as one of the most eclectic and authentic conversational programmes available today.

Hosted by Julia Baird, Ellen Fanning, and Dan Bourchier ‘The Drum' has consistently provided viewers with an opportunity to engage in informed discussions about current issues. ABC Managing Director Justin Stevens himself says, "The Drum began in 2010 and it went on to be groundbreaking in championing diversity on air, leading the way in finding new voices and inspiring other ABC teams to follow suit.” It’s unique format as a daily 1-hour show, allows for comprehensive coverage and analysis that other programmes often miss.

However, we understand that changes may be necessary to ensure the sustainability of the programme. Please consider alternatives such as: reformatting 'The Drum' into a 90-minute weekly show instead of cancelling it outright, or: changing the schedule to Monday, Wednesday & Friday. This would still allow us to benefit from its insightful content while potentially reducing production costs.

We urge ABC to consider our proposal seriously before making any final decisions about 'The Drum'. Let's work together to preserve this valuable resource for public discourse in our society.
