The Issue

Living on a historic street that's home to two schools, I've always enjoyed the peace and community spirit unique to Hurley, NY. Recently, plans have emerged to construct a lithium-ion plant right in our neighborhood, threatening the well-being of our community and the integrity of our environment.

Lithium-ion plants, while crucial for modern technology, come with significant environmental and safety risks. These facilities are known for emitting pollutants that can contaminate air and water, potentially endangering health. Imagine our children at play in school yards, unknowingly breathing contaminated air—a risk no parent should have to take.

Additionally, the risk of fires and chemical spills at such plants poses another threat. Historically, incidents in similar plants have led to evacuations and significant environmental damage. Our historic neighborhood should not become the next statistic in a series of preventable mishaps.

The establishment of this plant contradicts the essence of Hurley, a town renowned for its rich history and scenic beauty. We must preserve our environment for future generations and maintain the safety and historical charm of our beloved community.

This isn’t just about us—it’s about preserving the spirit and safety of our entire community, including the young students who attend the nearby schools. The future of Hurley should reflect our values, not be compromised by industrial risks.

Join me in urging local authorities to find alternative locations for this plant, far from residential areas and schools. Together, we can protect our neighborhood and keep Hurley a safe and vibrant community for all.

Please sign this petition to voice your opposition to the creation of a lithium-ion plant in our neighborhood. Let's come together to preserve the safety and beauty of Hurley, NY.
