Prevent Michael Shellenberger from Speaking at the Hear me See me Summit

The Issue

As a resident of Cambridge, seeing a speaker like Michael Shellenberger invited to the Hear Me See Me summit is deeply concerning. Shellenberger, a controversial right-wing blogger, lacks the necessary mental health or addiction credentials to contribute anything of substance to this event. More importantly, his history of advocating for damaging and divisive ideologies, like conversion therapy and the criminalization of homelessness and addiction, threatens the compassionate atmosphere we strive for in our city. His beliefs could seriously infiltrate and influence our city council's perspective – and, consequently, our policies. We are worried this could lead to more intolerance in a city that has been a beacon for societal understanding, empathy, and change. The other very concerning problem with this person is the fact that he's American. In this political climate of supporting and buying Canadian why are we paying an American ten thousand dollars to speak at a local summit?? We have local experts who are willing to speak for free. This event, which is intended to raise awareness about mental health and addiction, should not become a stage for him to propagate his hate-filled ideologies. We need to preserve the integrity of this crucial discussion and protect our community. Please, sign the petition to show your refusal to accept hate and intolerance in our city council and the City of Cambridge, and ask the event organizers to disinvite Michael Shellenberger as keynote speaker from the Hear Me See Me summit.
