The Issue
UPDATE: We are continuing to keep up the fight against a two-lane drive-thru on Speedwell!! A complaint (appeal) has been filed by a group of Concerned Citizens of Morris Plains. Please continue to share this petition with friends and neighbors who may not be aware and who want to stay informed. Thank you!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As residents of Morris Plains, NJ, we have a deep-rooted concern for the our community of caring and the lifestyle we hold dear. Our concerns stem from the looming threat of a McDonald's chain potentially setting up shop in the former Friendly's location, in the heart of our downtown , indiscriminately introducing a source of unhealthy food and increased traffic close to our schools.
The issue extends beyond just community aesthetics or the threat of local businesses folding. It's about protecting the health of our children who will inevitably be drawn to the allure of cheap, processed foods on their doorstep.
According to a study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, fast food consumption is linked to poor diet quality and increased risk of obesity and various chronic diseases. Now picture this scenario right across the street from our school where our children spend most of their time. Far from ideal, isn't it?
Furthermore, traffic congestion in our town would dramatically worsen with a high-demand, drive-thru outlet operating all day. This increase could jeopardize the safety of our residents and students with heightened risks of accidents and a potentially unbearable noise pollution level.
We are just a small community trying to preserve our downtown, while ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our children. Stand with us in our pursuit to keep McDonald's out of our downtown Speedwell Avenue. Please sign this petition and help our voice reach the authorities who have the power to prevent this.
