The Huntington Beach City Council has officially terminated the “Symphony of Flowers” light show proposal for Central Park.
This is a win for our parks, wildlife, budget priorities, and community voice. The show would’ve taken up over six acres and run for about half the year, but experts raised serious concerns about its environmental impact — especially for species like the light-footed Ridgway’s rail, the bald eagle, the least Bell’s vireo, and Monarch butterflies. Also, the financial risks were real: the promoter is tied up with bankruptcy, and the city was being asked to commit resources without assurance of return. Los Angeles Times
A huge thank you to everyone who signed the petition, spoke up, and showed up — your voices made the difference. Let’s keep watch to ensure decisions like this follow through, and that we prioritize what truly enriches our community and preserves our natural habitats.
