I live in the beautiful Mizner's Preserve Community and every day, I along with many other residents, pass through our community entrance. It has recently come to my attention that there is a plan to install a traffic light at our entrance. Although a traffic light may seem like a beneficial addition, critical data from the Department of Transportation suggests otherwise. In many cases traffic lights have led to an increase in the number of accidents rather than reducing them. Unintended consequences such as these can alter the safety of our roads and disrupt peaceful community life. It is crucial to weigh the negatives along with the positives when considering such changes. Cars that stop abruptly due to a recent light change are more likely to be hit from behind, and impatient drivers may run the light causing perilous situations. There are efficient alternatives available like roundabouts and traffic calming measures that can be explored. I urge officials to rethink and stop the installation of this proposed traffic light.
