Prevent Hallim Park Jeju from Exhibiting Animals

The issue

Raising our voices for the voiceless, I am reaching out to address a pressing issue at Hallim Park in Jeju, South Korea. This park, known for its scenic beauty, harbors a distressing truth behind its displays— the unethical and unsuitable living conditions of its resident animals. During a recent visit, I was appalled to witness animals being kept in environments severely detrimental to their well-being.

A particularly concerning observation was of a cockatoo, isolated and kept in a tropical greenhouse— conditions that starkly contrast with its natural habitat. Such an environment, excessively hot and humid, does not cater to the needs of the cockatoo. This singular example reflects a broader pattern of neglect that prioritizes visitor entertainment over the well-being and comfort of the animals in the park's care.

Jeju’s Hallim Park, while a jewel of natural allure, must also stand as a beacon of ethical animal treatment. Inaction is synonymous with complacency, and it is imperative for us to act now. Many tourists and locals prefer attractions that respect and nurture living creatures, making ethical treatment not only a moral imperative but also a potential draw for compassionate visitors.

We ask for immediate intervention to revise and improve the living conditions of all animals currently housed in Hallim Park. This includes evaluations by professionals who can advise on proper habitat conditions and enrichment for each species. If these standards cannot be met, rehoming to reputable sanctuaries should be considered.

Now is the time to make a change. Let's advocate for the humane treatment of animals in Jeju and set a precedent for animal welfare across South Korea. Stand with us, and urge Hallim Park to create an environment where animals are treated with dignity and respect rather than as mere attractions. Sign this petition to be part of a movement towards compassion and ethical responsibility.
