I am writing this petition today, driven by a fear born out of the increasing number of devastating fires, caused by overhead electrical lines. I plead to our local authorities and electrical power companies to prioritize the undergrounding of electrical lines as a preventative measure against destructive fires.

According to state data, electrical malfunctions, including those involving overhead power lines, accounted for over 479 fires in 2023 alone. Almost 50% of the most devastating fires in California's history have been traced back to power lines. Undergrounding the lines would significantly reduce this risk, safeguarding our homes, our environment, and our lives.

The economic damage of a massive fire far outweigh the cost of taking preventive action. The US Fire Administration reported that wildland fires, many caused by electric faults, resulted in over $100 billion in damages in California alone.
