Prevent construction of any data centers in Grant County Indiana

The Issue

The quaint town of Marion, Indiana, in Grant County holds a special place in my heart. With its close-knit community and serene environment, it feels more like a home than just a place to live. Recently, plans have been announced to construct a 800 acre massive data center here, threatening to disrupt the peace and lifestyle we've grown to cherish.

What many might not realize is the significant impact such a facility could have on our community. Data centers require extensive infrastructure, including power and cooling systems, which often lead to increased energy consumption and potential environmental changes. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers account for about 2% of the total electricity use in the United States, and their demand is continuously growing. This can result in higher utility bills for local residents and increased strain on our natural resources, not to mention the noise and potential pollution these sites might bring.

Moreover, our town currently boasts scenic landscapes and leisure parks, which contribute greatly to the quality of life here. The introduction of an industrial site could mean loss of green spaces and recreational areas that families and children enjoy daily. It’s not just about preserving the aesthetic value of Grant County but also about maintaining our community’s health and wellbeing.

I urge you to think about the long-term effects this development could have on our town. By signing this petition, you can help us show our local government and the interested companies that there is a better path forward that aligns with the values and needs of Grant County residence.

Please sign this petition to keep Marion, Indiana, in Grant County the welcoming and safe haven many of us call home.
