The Issue

As a member of a community of concerned neighbors here in Nutley, New Jersey, Nutley Neighbors for Responsible Development (NNRD) is reaching out to you with an urgent plea to halt the potential construction of a data center planned by PRISM/ON3 at 275 Kingsland Street. We are protesting against this new development and we are taking a stance for the safety and well-being of every resident in our beloved Nutley community.

We have witnessed the detrimental impacts of similar developments in nearby areas like Hackensack and Secaucus, where spills and accidents have posed significant risks to both residents and the surrounding environments. Residents in those towns have had to endure environmental hazards that threaten their air quality, water supply, and overall public health. It's a model we do not wish to replicate in our neighborhood, where we cherish our clean streets and friendly atmosphere.

The potential data center construction poses not just a potential environmental hazard but also a significant alteration to Nutley's character. It can increase noise pollution, it can skyrocket energy demands, requiring sprawling infrastructure that disrupts our community space. We want our commissioners and Prism to know that the benefits from these developments do not outweigh the longstanding impacts on the health and safety of our residents.

We propose a halt on data center developments until proper assessments and community dialogues can outline viable, sustainable alternatives that align with Nutley’s identity and public interest. There are better solutions that mitigate risk while embracing innovation, such as smaller, eco-friendly establishments or developments that benefit every part of our society.

Our commissioners need to hear our voices clearly: We do not want data centers in our backyard. Our community deserves to remain a close-knit, safe, and environmentally sound haven for our families to grow and thrive. The need for economic growth should not come at the cost of our health or the fabric of our community.

Please join us in this essential endeavor to ensure the legacy of Nutley as a safe, vibrant, and healthy place to live. Sign this petition to help us protect our neighborhoods from the adverse effects that accompany these developments. Together, we can send a compelling message: no Nutley data centers!
