Dear supports,

Happy Christmas and holidays!

Thank you so much for your support of this petition. I believe that stopping the closure of the public front desk at Twickenham Police Station is crucial right now, because if we fail this time, the Mayor could use the excuse ‘save money’ again to relocate all officers to a remote business park! I believe we all paid quite high taxes, and the police have enough money for a few people to work at the front desk.

This is what the AI results of ‘who owns the building of Twickenham police station’:
Twickenham Police Station, like most Met Police buildings, is owned by the Metropolitan Police or a related public body under the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC), but its specific ownership details often involve property management by Network Rail or Solum Regeneration for redevelopment sites, though the police use it as a base, with Richmond Council recently fighting its closure.
Key Points:
Metropolitan Police: The Met uses the building as a base for policing in the Richmond area.
Public Ownership: Police stations are generally public assets, controlled by MOPAC.
Complex Property Deals: The station's location near the railway means property ownership can involve Network Rail or developers like Solum, but the police occupy it as a crucial local hub.

The last points suggest there might be a property deal.

As the first step in the campaign strategy, an email has been sent to the Mayor, the London Police Commissioner, and the MOPAC office, informing them that we have launched the petition. The email didn’t mention the above issues, but raised the concern that the police station building is being turned into a property development project.  The email sent is shown below:

‘As residents of Richmond, we are deeply concerned about the proposed closure of the front counter at Twickenham Police Station, especially in light of the recent rise in local crime. We urge you to reconsider this decision in favour of prioritising community safety.

The continued operation of the front counter is essential to building community trust in local law enforcement and ensuring public visibility. We are concerned that closing this facility may result in officers being relocated to less accessible locations. This raises additional concerns about the future of the police station building, particularly the risk of redevelopment into housing in partnership with property developers.

We respectfully request that you keep the front counter at Twickenham Police Station open to support community safety and trust in law enforcement.’

While writing, the feeling gets stronger: it is not because the police want to save money, since operating a front desk doesn’t cost much. It might be a preparation for a huge property deal.

Please share this email to your friends and family. Please sign the petition to support the campaign.

Kind regards,
Wenling

PS:
Our second step is to print leaflets for distribution and posters for the Community Noticeboard.  Please support us at: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/savepolicestations?utm_term=vgedqPk3A&utm_medium=FA&utm_source=CL

We also need volunteers to distribute leaflets and set up street stalls.  Please contact me to make arrangements.

Public safety is getting worse and worse, yet police stations are getting fewer and fewer. This campaign is not only for Twickenham residents; it aims to win and set a precedent. We are doing it for all residents across the UK.
