The Issue

Charlie Kirk's scheduled appearance at Utah State University on his American Comeback Tour is a matter of significant concern for many students and community members. Charlie Kirk, a highly polarizing figure, does not align with the core values and ideology that Utah State University strives to epitomize. As a university deeply committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, it stands at odds with the messages frequently associated with Charlie Kirk and his platform. Allowing him to speak on our campus would not only misrepresent the values we hold dear but also create an environment where divisive rhetoric could flourish.

Utah State University has consistently worked towards fostering an inclusive space for all its students and faculty. Letting a figurehead, whose speeches often seem to undermine the essence of inclusivity, use our beloved institution as a platform contradicts this mission. Our university represents a home for students from various backgrounds, each contributing to the rich tapestry of our academic community. Hosting speakers who propagate divisive and contentious ideologies threatens the inclusive atmosphere that many have worked tirelessly to build.

Furthermore, the broader community in Cache Valley deserves to experience an educational environment free from unnecessary provocations that could lead to discord. Allowing personalities whose views are interpreted as controversial to occupy spaces at esteemed educational institutions undercuts the aim of nurturing constructive discourse rooted in mutual respect and understanding.

Our goal with this petition is to urge Utah State University to reconsider allowing Charlie Kirk's event to proceed. By doing so, the university can reaffirm its commitment to supporting diversity and remaining true to its foundational principles of inclusion. We believe there are numerous speakers who resonate more closely with the university's values and who would provide insightful and inspiring engagements without compromising the welcoming environment we strive for.

Sign this petition to send a clear message that we stand united for a university that upholds the tenets of inclusivity, respect, and enlightenment. Let us work together to ensure that Utah State University remains a campus where all students feel safe, valued, and respected.
