We recently faced an unfair and unexpected situation during our SSE316C and SOE316C exams at the university. A critical question was poorly constructed due to incomplete and incorrect information provided to us, the students. Because of this oversight, the Assessment and Grading Unit (AGU) decided to nullify 25% of our exam paper. Later, they even rendered our efforts null and void, disregarding the hard work and preparation we put into these exams.

This situation is grossly unjust as it was not the fault of the students but a result of the university's exam preparation processes which clearly failed. The paper, despite having been moderated, did not meet the standards we were led to expect. The meaning of the word "opportunity" should imply a choice. It should be voluntarily offered to students whether they wish to retake the exam under amended conditions or not. This principle should be respected so that students can decide their academic futures based on personal choice and not be forced into it.

We take pride in our commitment to our education, but we insist that it is acknowledged fairly. As students of integrity and perseverance, we demand that the management adjusts this issue satisfactorily. The reassessment should be optional and not a blanket requirement for all students, especially since the initial error was not ours but the university's.

We are asking the university administration to recognize their role in this oversight and adjust the situation in a manner that is equitable. This adjustment should allow students to freely choose their path without being penalized for a mistake that was not of their own making.
