The Issue

2004-2008 deployments to Balad, Iraq and Afghanistan is when the nightmare began for these 11 brave veterans who served in the US AF, Navy, Army, Marines returned home not the men and women that left they returned with invisible wounds of war which we now know as Toxic & Chemical Exposure caused by open-air burn pits, that burned throughout Iraq and Afghanistan they would see contractors and military personnel burning such items from batteries to body parts. These men and women returned home to there’re families, families that became strong advocates, advocates that fought and continue to fight hard for their veterans as well as every veteran across the United States of America.

Not only struggling with health issues, these veterans struggled with keeping their military jobs, jobs that should’ve taken care of them, a few were discharged while on their death bed a few passed before they could get the help that they deserved, these families were tired of the run around so they (11 families) had had enough several began their own foundations with the hope of being heard (Staff Sergeant Billy McKenna Foundation, founder Dina McKenna, Veteran Warriors founder Lauren Price now deceased, The Sargent Thomas Joseph Sullivan Foundation, founders Peter-Jeanne Sullivan, Burn Pits360, founders Leroy- Rosie Torres) all acquired their 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, Burn Pit Families founder Maria Baca.

On January 10, 2013 President Barack Obama signed the Senate Bill 3202 Burn Pit Registry Act and August 10, 2022, Six out of the 11 families were in attendance as they witnessed President Joe Biden sign the Pact Act which expands eligibility for VA health care and benefits for millions of veterans suffering from health issues because of exposure to burn pits and other toxins in war zones.

The Burn Pit Registry and PACT Act Bills would not exist if it was not for these 11 families that from 2008 to present that have lost everything to make certain that every veteran that came home sick and dying would be heard and helped without a closed door.  2008 - Present the 11 families in the order as it began, Jill Wilkins (Kevin Wilkins), Stacey Pennington (Steven Ochs), Shanna & Tim Wymore, Dina McKenna (Billy McKenna), Jessey & Maria Baca, Leroy & Rosie Torres, Aubrey Tapley, Jim Price (Lauren Price), Laura Bumpus, Peter & Jeanne Sullivan (Thomas Joseph Sullivan), Daniel Meyer, these families BUSTED THEIR ASS on these Burn Pit Bills to get the help that our veterans desperately need, needed and deserve., out of the 11 families their are only 5 left, AF Medically Released Tim Wymore, AF Medically Ret. SMSgt. Jessey Baca, Medically Retired Army Captain Leroy Torres, Medically Released AF Aubrey Talley, Medically Released AF Daniel Meyer, we need to recognize all 11 families that continue to advocate for their service member and others across the country.

Please, SIGN THE PETITION to get President Joe Biden to award each of them the Presidential Medal of Freedom!
