For over six decades, the Cuban people have suffered under a communist dictatorship that has robbed them of freedom, prosperity, and dignity. Today, that regime is weaker than it has ever been — and America has the opportunity to finish what generations before us could not.

With Venezuela's oil lifeline cut off, Cuba's economy is in free fall. Fuel shortages and rolling blackouts have brought everyday life to a standstill. Cubans are taking to the streets, chanting "Libertad!" and demanding an end to communist rule. This is Cuba's Berlin Wall moment.

Sadly, while millions of Cubans live without electricity and face brutal repression under Communist rule, wealthy American leftist influencers are flying to Havana for photo ops and calling it an "aid mission." Meanwhile, some leaders in Washington who once loudly criticized the Cuban communist regime have gone silent – or worse, switched sides – simply because it is President Trump leading the charge.

Freedom for the Cuban people should not be a partisan issue.

We call on President Trump, Secretary Rubio, and the United States Congress to:

• Maintain and strengthen sanctions on the Cuban regime until meaningful political reform is achieved
• Impose tariffs on any nation that provides oil or economic lifelines to Havana
• Reject any deal that preserves communist rule in exchange for cosmetic economic reforms
• Stand with the Cuban people — not their oppressors

Cuba needs two things: economic reform and political reform. And as Secretary Rubio has made clear, you cannot fix their economy without changing their government. We urge our leaders – on both sides of the aisle – to put the Cuban people above political point-scoring and see this through to a free Cuba.
