Allowing women on Michigan State's campus to have a safe lounge space to study

This petition is in response to a complaint filed by University of Michigan Flint employee Mark Perry.
One of the unique and cherished places for women at Michigan State University was the Women's lounge, located in the MSU Student Union. It was a safe and quiet place for women on campus to take refuge and study in peace. In recent events, MSU administration has shut down the only women's lounge on campus, making it co-ed even though there is a co-ed lounge that is over twice the size of the women's lounge on the same floor. They have also disbanded the Women's Resource Center, and the Women's Counsel is being threatened. There is a lot of information flying around, but here is our petition:
We are petitioning to reinstate the resources directed towards making women feel safe on campus. We are petitioning to take back our study lounge, reinstate the Women's Resource Center, and the support our Women's Counsel. Our society has a history of gender inequality and MSU's community is sadly no exception. Our University has been tarnished by ongoing investigation of mishandling sexual assault cases, of mostly women. The lounge was a space where sexual assault victims could go and feel safe, a space away from their attacker. In light of this investigation, it is extremely important to have a place on campus where these women can go and feel protected. Now our lounge, the only room on campus where women could relax and just be around other women, is being taken away. If you are in support of women's rights on campus, and by extension, reinstating the Women's Lounge, please sign the petition and urge others to do the same. Together we can take back our lounge.
