I am writing to you because of a terribly dangerous environmental situation here on the Big Island of Hawaii, around the other Hawaiian Islands as well as in southern California that will begin again on June 30, 2016, and continue for the entire month of July – the Pacific Rim Exercises (RIMPAC). These military maneuvers which have occurred around this time of year for the past 45 years engage land, air and sea demonstrations of military strength in which the United States and other countries participate.I am concerned about the damage being done to the environment by these military exercises and the danger to the health of the Hawaiian people and tourists who come to this alleged paradise for vacation. With the date of these military exercises now upon us, I urgently request that you order tests of the soil, air and water to be done during the month long military exercises, and afterwards, in order to measure the amount of radioactivity and toxic metals there are present on the Hawaiian Islands and in southern California resulting from these military maneuvers. Thank you in advance for any help you can give to exposing the danger of these military exercises, and their effect on the islands and the civilians who live here. There needs to be careful monitoring of military exercises, and actual war, and how they affect the environment which we humans absolutely need in order to survive and in which to be healthy.
