Everyday, Ugandan LGBT members are being actively targeted and persecuted due to the effects of the large influence of religion in the country. Being thought of as "diseased" and as trying to "recruit" young children into their "cause", LGBT individuals are often ostracized from their community at best, and, at worst, are outright tortured with no laws protecting them and their private lives. This problem was publicized by the "Kill the Gays" bill, but since that has died down among Western media, the people have forgotten about the current situation for many LGBT individuals living in Uganda now. 

Donald Trump, you have been attacked by your many opponents for anti-LGBT sentiments, especially with your Vice President Mike Pence' attitude about defunding HIV research in favor of gay conversion therapy, which has been proven to simply cause psychological and physical harm toward its victims, and not "turn them" into straight people. If you were to support this action toward trying to raise more awareness about the inequality in Uganda, it would be a step in the right direction, and start you off very well in your presidency. 

This petition calls upon the United States government to...

• Put diplomatic pressure on the Ugandan government to speak out, and raise awareness over the hate crimes done to LGBT individuals, so that action may be taken within their government.
• Increase funding toward transnational civil societies and organizations designed to protect these individuals, so that victims may feel advocated for, and feel supported.
• Be more politically vocal in their support for LGBT rights especially in these developing countries.
