The Lake Oahe reservoir on the Missouri River is the only source of drinking water for Standing Rock Sioux Tribe as well as the location of sacred burial and archaeological sites. Building the Dakota Access Pipeline upstream from it will create unnecessary risk of contamination. The pipeline materials are not resistant to wear and a burst or leak would be fatal.

The Army has previously denied approval of the section of the pipeline crossing through Lake Oahe, however President Trump has scrapped the environmental impact survey in approving the pipeline's continuation. Please create a roundtable discussion to find a way to reroute the pipeline away from the mouth of the reservoir.

Protests to stop the pipeline have been ignored, so we must try to compromise by asking the parties involved to reroute, not block the pipeline. A proposed solution would be to cross the Missouri River further downstream than the Reservation.
