Hello world, my name is Joshua Dixon & im currently 19 1/2yrs into a 65 yr sentence! I caught this case at the adolescent age of 15 but was charged & convicted as an adult! The laws in Illinois has changed whereas individuals who caught their cases as juveniles are able to petition the courts for a reduction in sentence (in which I am currently back at cook county jail awaiting resentencing due to the changes of this new law for juveniles)! Today the science behind human brain development has also changed as the age for full development seems to be 25! I brought this up because I was charged as an adult but couldn’t vote nor work a full time job, drive, along with many other liberties that adults are afforded! I was removed from society as a 15 yr old father of 4 with one on the way, Wow! Did my last statement really penetrate, let me put it to you like this, now I am today a 34 yr old grandfather of 2! I’ve lost so much durning my tenure away, mainly my biggest support (my mother) 2 yrs with in my incarceration. This travesty caused me to grow up expeditiously. I was the only boy of 5 kids by my mother & now my sisters & their kids so badly need my male presence! I’m seeking a 20 yr sentence along with the ability to be moved to Kewanee life skills reentry center, a new facility offered by our state that prepare guys for reentry! I have a strong support system but even so I am still looking for mentors to aid me through life’s many journey’s! I am remorseful & ready to share my story with the world because their are so many young boys & girls that deserve it.
