Shelly Harris started this petition to President of the United States and

On March 26 1944, Reverend Isaac Simmons, a black farmer and minister was brutally beaten and lynched by six white men because they wanted his land in Amite County Mississippi.    After they murdered him, the angry mob threatened his family to leave their land or likewise be killed.   Out of fear, the family fled the state.   Reverend Simmons family owned over 270 acres of debt free land  since 1887.   Reverend Simmons was killed in front of his son Eldridge Simmons.  The angry mob also cut out Reverend Simmons' tongue and told his son they had 10 days to leave the property.   Only one man was prosecuted for the crime but was acquitted by an all white jury.

The Simmons family blood line has tried on several occasions to get their land back.  However they were always denied due to statue of limitations and other reasons.  One reason reported that Reverend Simmons was delinquent on his land taxes, but records showed he was current.

This is a petition to give the family their land back because it was taken violently and unjustly without their consent. They were forced off their land due to threats, murder, hate and racism.  They deserve what's fairly and rightfully theirs.  If you believe they deserve their land back, please sign this petition.
