Garifuna Nation Petition: To Stop Human Rights Abuses and Indigenous Killings in Honduras

The Issue

  1. A full investigation on the assassination Human Rights Activist Ms. Berta Caceres in Honduras. That the result of the investigation be released directly to the United Nations, OAS, US Secretary of State, Amnesty International providing access to the public;
  2. The immediate security and protection of other Honduran Indigenous Leaders and members of their organizations including our own Indigenous Garifuna Leader Miriam Miranda, the President of OFRANEH (Black Fraternal Organization of Honduras); 
  3. To have the Department of State put a hold to all external funding for military and police system in Honduras until the human violations stop and the killing of citizens has drop to a minimum.
  4. To put pressure on the U.S. Department of State, World Bank's International Finance Corporation, and the Honduran State to invalidate all concessions signed by the Honduran government and/or Honduran corporations with national and/or international corporations involving any unconsulted and  unapproved exploitation of the resources in the indigenous territories.
