Change Laws on Cops Killing Dogs

Change Laws on Cops Killing Dogs
The Issue
Every week a police officer needlessly shoots an innocent dog. Either because they went to the wrong house on a mistake, entered a house when they shouldn't have, or just plain judged a dog on looks alone. For many people dogs, and pets are no different than children. We put our heart and soul into caring for them and loving them. If you want to try and convince me that my dog isn't as important to me as my friend's little boy is to him, good luck, it won't happen. And is that not the source of morality we should be looking for? The impact on a parent, the pain they are put through, and the rights they lose when a child is shot are no different than those of a pet owner. If a police officer shoots someone's human child the world is in an uproar, but if a police officer needlessly shoots someone's non-human child, such as a dog, the owner is lucky if they even get a small cash compensation. It is sick, it is disgusting, it is immoral, and it is WRONG. Please change the law to hold police officers just as accountable for shooting someone's pet, as they would shooting someone's human child. The justification, and reasoning should be no different when making the decision to fire. The possible consequences should be no different. When a person is shot by police, we investigate, and if it wasn't justified the officer faces repercussions, why can't it be the same for our dear pets? Police on civilian violence must end, and this is the start. To paraphrase Ghandi, "You can judge a society based on how it treats it's animals." If a young sociopath kills a dog for no reason we do psych evaluations and potentially put that person in jail. When a cop does it.......NOTHING right now, and I believe that needs to change. As a society why are we not judging the police in the same capacity we judge the morality of any other person? Why does this continue to happen? Because every time it does, the police officer feels no repercussions. Change the laws AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. End domestic terrorism on our beloved pet animals, or as I like to call them, our non-human children.
