  • On 27 April, President Ramaphosa broadly condemned the LGBTIQ+ attacks in his Freedom Day speech, but this was simply not good enough. He failed to offer any commitments or plans to change the status quo and did not address our calls for specific steps to be taken by the government.
  • On 30 April, the crisis deepened as reports emerged of another murder of an LGBTIQ+ South African. The body of Lucky Kleinboy Motshabi, 30, was found in a field in Dennilton, Limpopo. His body was naked and marked with stab wounds.
