A woman born in South Africa has a greater chance of being raped than learning to read. Interpol has named South Africa the "rape capital of the world". Every 29 seconds, a woman is raped in South Africa. A child is raped every 3 minutes in South Africa. Men kill women every 4 hours in South Africa. 

These statistics are extremely alarming, scary, shocking and heart breaking. Women and children in South Africa don't feel safe in their own homes and out on the streets. Women walk around fearing for their lives in the presence of men. What's even more heart breaking and alarming is the silence of men in South Africa. 

I urge every man to speak up and fight against the rape, injustice, abuse and murdering of women and children in South Africa. I urge every man to call out their friends and hold them accountable for their actions and speech towards women and children. I urge every man to never entertain conversations that objectify, dishonour, disrespect, silence and belittle women. 

The change starts with us men. It starts in our hearts, our minds, our perspectives, our speech, our world views, our intentions and our actions.
