Dear President Obama,  As of yet, family pets have always been legally labeled as 'property.'  Every day a family pet is shot in America by Law Enforcement officers. We the people petiiton you to change the legal term 'property' of our pets to family members. Because Mr. President, thats just what they are.

To lose a  family pet is devasting in itself, let alone them being shot unnessarily. We also ask that you put into efect as soon as possible a law that would require training in all Police Departments that would train officers to tranqiliize an animal rather that shooting them. Please look at the picture above and see where a woman's dog and best friend was shot and killed just because they were afraid of her. This woman won her case in court, but the Officers were never fired.
