Citizens in Support of Saving the Schoolhouse

Millcreek Township General Authority just spent millions of taxpayer funds to purchase this and another building, with minimal notice to the public until the sales deal was in progress.

Their published rationale was to demolish properties in a gamble to attract developers to a “tabula rasa” and build a more attractive gateway to a PA state park, Presque Isle. Once the news release, we learned that this is a historic schoolhouse, shown on atlases as far back as 1876*

This building could be PRESERVED and incorporated to the township plan and adapted to be reused as a small museum, welcome center, gift shop, etc. much like the Oldest Schoolhouse in America, St. Augustine, FL, but on a much smaller scale.

Before the Township takes any further action, the taxpayers and citizens, preservationists, historians, should be given an opportunity to save the building from the claws of destruction.
