The Issue

As a U.S. Army veteran of the war in Iraq and someone with deep familial ties to military service, I feel a profound duty to advocate for the preservation of our military heritage. My family has proudly served in nearly every branch and numerous significant conflicts, including World War II and Vietnam. Our collective history is not merely a series of personal memories but a critical tapestry woven into the fabric of our nation.

The United States Army's recent decision to reduce its network of museums from 41 to 12 by 2028 poses a significant threat to our ability to honor and learn from our past. Many of these museums, custodians of invaluable historical artifacts, are anticipated to close much sooner, consigning irreplaceable collections to storage facilities, potentially never to be seen by the public again.

These museums serve as educational resources, offering the public, historians, and future generations a tangible connection to America's military history. They house artifacts that tell stories of bravery, sacrifice, and the significant events that have shaped our country. For veterans and their families, they create a place of reverence and reflection, honoring soldiers’ commitments and sacrifices.

Closing these museums risks not only losing access to historical artifacts but also diminishing the opportunity for ongoing education and reflection. It sends a message that the stories and sacrifices of our service members may be forgotten. These institutions are more than just buildings; they are the bedrock of understanding and appreciating the essence and evolution of our Army and its pivotal role in our history.

I urge everyone to join this petition to keep all 41 Army museums open. By doing so, we ensure that the monumental stories and artifacts remain accessible to all. Preserving these institutions will guarantee that current and future generations can continue to learn from and honor the legacy of our great military history. Sign this petition to protect and maintain access to these invaluable historical resources.
