Many of us can relate to the commitment that sport demands from us - the early rises for training, the long evenings honing our skills, and the endless games that fill up our weekends. Sport, just like any discipline, requires sacrifice, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to improvement. This is the commitment we've undergone as members and supporters of the Winnipeg Wesmen Soccer Team at the University of Winnipeg.

Sport not only bonds us together, but it also instills values such as team work, leadership, and discipline - values that last a lifetime. Consequently, we cannot overstate the importance of the Winnipeg Wesmen Soccer Team towards fostering these attributes among our students.

As such, it is distressing to hear that there are plans to discontinue the Winnipeg Wesmen Soccer team. The adverse effects of such a decision extend beyond the pitch. On a practical level, it will imply that the dreams of young, talented athletes will be curtailed. More significantly, it will mean that the opportunity to acknowledge, learn and apply life values through sport will be severely reduced.

We urge the decision-makers at the University of Winnipeg to reconsider this decision and to prioritize the value of sport as a vital component of student life. Let us continue to display our pride, unity and perseverance on the soccer field. We call upon fellow students, alumni, parents, and all stakeholders, to stand with us, by signing this petition and voicing their support for the preservation of the Winnipeg Wesmen Soccer Team. Let's use our collective voice to safeguard the spirit of our beloved team.
