As a ward Councillor for Dogsthorpe, a teacher, and a parent, I understand firsthand the importance of the Lollipop Lady patrols outside of Newark Hill Academy on Eastfield Road in Peterborough. These patrols play an essential role in ensuring the safety of parents and carers who cross this busy road during morning and afternoon school runs. 

Travel independence and safety are key lessons that our schools strive to instill in our students. The Lollipop Lady patrol is not just about traffic control; it's about teaching our children how to navigate their community safely. This service is vital to our community.

However, these invaluable services are under threat. We must act now to ensure that they continue for future generations.

The loss of these patrols would significantly increase risks for those crossing Eastfield Road - one of Peterborough's busiest roads - especially during peak times when children are going to or coming from school.

We urge local authorities not only to maintain but also enhance support for this essential service that safeguards our children's lives every day.
