Did you see this? The Kansas City Star recently published an article about the development of the Line Creek Forest in KC's Northland.

Some takeaways:

1. Despite prehistoric artifacts being found on the land, the Park Hill School District chose NOT to do an archeological survey before beginning construction on Hopewell Elementary. (The school is named Hopewell in honor of the ancient Native American culture that resided in the area.)

Ah, the irony is as thick as the smoke that leads us to point #2 ....

2. According to the district, they chose to burn all the trees because it was "cheaper" than other options. Some burning days were during ozone alerts, which is against regulations.

3. Remember, currently the school has NO conservation plan for any of the forest. This is what we are focused on right now ... if you are concerned about this as well, make plans to attend the meeting on Aug. 7, 6:30-8pm at Plaza Middle School.

And lastly, a quick reminder! These projects were funded by $110 million dollar bond vote - meaning that our community agreed to take on $110 million dollars in debt for new schools. It's local money. Even if you don't have a kid attending school in the Park Hill School District, it's still your $$$, so you have a voice here.

And you can make your voice heard! Don't forget to attend the meeting on Aug. 7, 6:30-8pm at Plaza Middle School where Park Hill district administrators will be answering questions about this development.
