Preserve the Historical Maze in City Park for Future Generations

The Issue

Save The Maze – Protect City Park!

The Maze (Mtego wa Panya) is one of City Park’s most iconic and cherished landmarks. Designed in 1947, it has been a place of adventure, history and community memories for decades. Recognizing its cultural significance, it was officially declared a National Monument on 2nd December 2016 (Gazette Notice No. 9973).

Unfortunately a proposed driveway and parking lot from a neighboring establishment threatens this historic site and further encroaches on City Park!

Nairobi has less than 10% of the green space recommended by World Health Organization (WHO). Every inch of green space preserved is a win for the long term sustainability of Nairobi and health of its residents.

Turning a 1.5-acre maze/forest into a parking lot would:
✅ Increase CO₂ emissions by 3.75 tons per year and heat levels by approximately 5°C in the area
✅ Worsen flooding due to reduced groundwater absorption
✅ Hurt mental and physical health
✅ Destroy wildlife habitat of almost 1,000 unique species
